A lot is happening on the restaurant front in Jayanagar. Another new one has joined the long list of Bangalore's restaurants - The Other Crescent. This is an interesting looking complex of sorts that houses three outlets - The Other Crescent - an Indian and Continental place, Enchante - a pastry shop and Presto - a sandwich/burger kind of place that also serves up a continental breakfast. 

We decided to give The Other Crescent a go. It was a weekend but we arrived there early enough to be the first patrons. Pretty interesting interiors - as you enter the semi-dome shaped complex, Presto comes to your right. The restaurant is placed is placed at a lower level and has an airy feel to it. We went upstairs to The Other Crescent which can also be accessed by a lift. Nice touch - for the elderly.

This restaurant has seating on level one and then a mezzanine like floor with additional seating. We were ushered here. I really did not have much in terms of expectations from this place. A bad set of pre-concieved notions about restaurants that open in Jayanagar. Nevertheless, I made sure that I kept an open mind. The menu had a neat mix of Indian and Continental. Nothing on the menu could be called different or unique to the place. The have a very basic wine list to begin with now, the full list will soon be available. 

We started with a lime soda for Sudhakar and a warm chicken and pasta salad. For Anoushka we ordered the egg biryani. I really liked the lime soda since I prefer mine more on the sour side. The sugar in it was not enough for Sudhakar. Of course, we could always have asked for more. Now for the warm chicken and pasta salad. For one, the portion was quite substantial. The pasta was layered at the bottom of the dish with a very interesting coriander infused cream sauce, this was topped with lettuce, green and yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes and thick slivers of pan fried chicken. This combination was finished off with a generous helping of parmesan cheese. Put altogether, this was terrific salad. Fresh, a nice combination of textures considering the creamy pasta, crispy lettuce and juicy tomatoes. And of course, who can deny the effect of cheese. 

The egg biryani for Anoushka too was well flavored. It came with three whole eggs as against the maximum of two in other places. It was moist enough to be eaten without a raita. She ate a decent amount and left us a good enough doggy bag.

Now for our main courses - Sudhakar opted for a Chicken Hot Pot or Pie am not too sure. This was chunks of chicken, covered in mashed potatoes and a white cream cheese sauce. This came with three slices of garlic bread. The dish itself was really tasty, no questions there. Nothing much in terms of authenticity or uniqueness to the dish. But in itself was pretty tasty. Its just that I wish the presentation was a bit better. There was molten cheese and sauce dribbling down the side of the dish and that did not make a good impression.

There were two non-veg options in sizzlers - a chicken and fish. The Chicken one had pineapple and Irequested that it be omitted. It was done. The sizzler was just the right size for one. It came with mashed potatoes. In this too, the sauce was all over the sizzler platter. Again taste-wise, nothing spectacularly unique but very very pleasant. 

The place pretty much packed up by the time we were done. The service interestingly was nice and unobtrusive. Plates were cleared as soon as we were done, once the starter was done, we were asked if we wanted our main course or would prefer a break, questions on the taste of the food were not too many and the courteousness seemed genuine. I only wonder about the feasibility of having a wine list. Being able to pair it well with Indian food is an art... hopefully they will be able to do that. Overall a nice place to head to if you live in this part of town and crave some pleasant food that is not at MG road rates. Oh yes! and the restroom is pretty clean.
